What do you guys think? Are the old Detroit pioneers like Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Jeff Mills, Kenny Larkin, Stacey Pullen, Octave One etc. still out there at the top of the techno scene. Or are they just a mere shadow of the artists that they once were.

Let us know what your opinion is and feel free to explain your choice!

Nice topic! In my opinion, they still have it. More, thay have something more... Many times, I "come back" to their sets, selections, in order not to lose myself in "trendy" electronic music. I specially think to Derrick May... When you listen his current sets, he plays 95% fresh stuff, impossible to talk about "museum" sessions. Still in the present... And conscious there is to keep it fresh and unique !!

It's vary easy to answare that question. Go to Detroit for D.E.M.F. and find out for yourself. All the og techno gods will be playing either the fest it's self or at a pre/after party!

To know where you are at you first have to know where you've been!

I have been there 2 years ago. Heard quite some 'gods' but some left me really cold unfortunately.

If I remember correctly it can be hard to enter USA when you have a criminal record. Other than that I cannot imagine having troubles getting into Detroit. Or things have really changed over the past years...

Belleville 3 was the worst DJ performance I ever have to witness 2 weeks ago @ Awakenings. They blamed it on Juan Atkins for using too much dope, but apart from the tracks being epic @ theirselves there was no flow or mixing skill. They sucked and admitted in interviews afterwards.

Kenny Larkin definitely still rocks, I got 2 mixes from him recently (one at soundcloud, the other here I think, not sure) and have been listening to them constantly. Excellent choice of tracks and a groove that keeps you pulling in as only detroit DJ's can do.

I personally think Jef Mills has lost it....
He ain't the man/dj he used to be.

Stacey Pullen however looks like he will never loose it

Also have to say that some Guys, like Ocatave One, Kenny Larkin, Stacey Pullen and Robert Hood still rock. But when I see Jeff Mills who is making Music with an Orchestra and takes alot of Money for each Gig he plays, he totally lost it.
