LiveSets.com User Policy
Version 1.5 - 8 July 2012
Why a User Policy and what’s it about?
Every online community needs a set of guidelines to which its users must comply in order to create a pleasant environment for everyone. The same thing goes for LiveSets.com. We tolerate a lot in our community, as long as common sense is involved, but there are a number of strict boundaries not to be crossed.
Below is a list of rules and guidelines you must read and understand before posting in the forums. If something is unclear to you, or if you're not sure whether something you're about to post is allowed, please contact a moderator or an administrator. They're generally nice people and willing to answer your questions. Also if you don't agree with a moderator's decision, contact him and explain why you think the decision was wrong. He may change his mind but if not, please respect the fact that The Moderator Is Always Right!
What is not allowed on LiveSets.com?
Discrimination/racism
Discriminating remarks or open display of racism is logically not allowed on LiveSets.com. If this is observed, it will lead to an official warning by the crew to the concerning user with possible restrictions as consequence. Don’t let certain emotions guide you in an overheated discussion, just inform one of the crew members.
Flame wars
LiveSets.com is a large community with a lot of users, each of them with his/her own opinion. Those opinions can clash in discussions. However, don't let yourself be tempted to start swearing at people, in other words do not become part of flame wars. If you don't agree with someone, try to make your case by using good arguments and not by name-calling. If someone behaves rude to you, ignore it and report it to a moderator, he will take the necessary measures.
If moderators see flaming going on, the discussion will be closed and the people involved will be contacted. If you would like to see the topic reopened, contact the moderator and then it’s up to him to decide whether a discussion can continue.
License and copyright violation
Whether one has illegal music or software at home is not our problem. However, it does become our problem when people offer this stuff on LiveSets.com or post links to sites where this software, music or films can be obtained. Our board is in the picture all the time and we can get huge problems with authorities, get sued and even shut down. We maintain an absolute zero-tolerance regarding the posting of copyrighted material!
Not allowed are:
· Copyrighted music like CD or vinyl rips
· Warez, cracks, no-cd patches etc
· Copyrighted (DivX / DVD) movies
If you're unsure if something is copyrighted or not, contact a moderator and he will gladly guide you.
Porno
We don't have a problem with a photograph of a beautiful woman or man, but keep it clean. Content with porno, obvious erotic conduct or photographs with genitals are not permitted. This community is open to minors, who should not be exposed to this kind of material. If you have any doubt whether something is allowed or not, contact one of the forum moderators.
Undesirable behaviour & forum guidelines
Other matters that are important when you take part in the discussions on LiveSets.com:
The search engine
The forum has a good search engine: on the top right of your screen you’ll find a search box and a button to the advanced search function. Many questions have already been asked more than once and many sets have already been posted. Therefore, before you post anything, it may be useful to try the search function first. There's a fair chance you’ll find the answer to your question or the set you were about to post.
Posting topics
When you post a topic make sure you do it in the appropriate forum. Every forum has its own rules and descriptions about what to post there, so make sure to check that out first. Remember that we are an International board so always post in English. The only exception is the «Dutch Only» forum, in which you must post in Dutch.
Double posting
It is not allowed to create a topic in more than one forum about the same issue. If you’re announcing a party for example, it’s not allowed to post it in the Party Calendar and in the Party Talk forum. Keep it to one forum! If cross posts are observed, all except one topic will be closed and/or trashed without warning.
CAPITAL LETTERS
Titles or topics, which have been written entirely in capital letters, look very intrusive and this is not appreciated. Pay attention to this!
Off-topic reactions
Try to keep replies as on topic as possible, stick to the subject therefore. A funny reply now and then is no problem, but don’t spoil topics with it. The same applies to the «Off Topic» forum: threads in this forum may be about any subject, but keep the replies in a thread about this subject!
Clear topic titles
If you post a topic, make sure you choose a clear title. This must be preferably the question or content of the topic. With a title like “check this” or "question" it is very unclear what the actual topic is about. Clear topic titles also ensure that one can find (old) topics more easily with the search function.
Multiple accounts
It’s not allowed to create several accounts on LiveSets.com. It is also not the intention to share your account with other people. If for any reason you are no longer able to use your account, send an email to one of the moderators or the forum Administrators. If you have registered, but you’re not satisfied with your nickname on the forum, it’s possible to change your nick one time. Contact the forum Administrators for this.
Smilies
Smilies are cool and very useful to reflect emotions, something that is not easy with a medium such as the Internet. Use them however with moderation, 10 smilies one after the other is more irritating than useful, so therefore pay attention to this. Also it’s important to use the smilies correctly, it is very easy to misunderstand someone due to incorrect use of smilies.
Netiquette
For all the other do's and don'ts of online communication we refer to netiquette.
Netiquette covers both common courtesy online and the informal "rules of the road" of cyberspace.
Facebook
By logging in to LiveSets.com, either through the LiveSets.com login or the Facebook login, you confirm that you are old enough to make legal use of both online services. When using the Facebook plugin you agree that certain profile information is being published on LiveSets.com, making it visible to other members. LiveSets.com cannot be held responsible for any of the contents, due to making use of the Facebook plugin. Furthermore the same rules apply as stated in this Policy.
Enjoy the community,
